There are countless fun and exciting ways to raise money. Here are just a few ideas…

AT HOME – Hold a pancake flipping contest… Too messy? How about a Wii-athon or a classic movie night with your friends.
AT SCHOOL – Organise a hat day or a scavenger hunt at your school, or run a mobile phone recycling campaign.
AT WORK – Have a dress down day, a coffee break quiz or bingo.
AT YOUR DESK – Hold a sponsored silence…. Or why not set up a swear box or a collection box for ChildVision?

Top tips for sponsorship

If you decide to take part in one of the many organised open challenges such as a marathon or a motorbike race on behalf of ChildVision here are some tips for raising money through sponsorship.

  • Start your sponsorship card off with a big pledge of money from a friend, it is a great way to set a trend.
  • Try to get the money on the spot rather than a pledge. It will make your life a lot easier in the long run (especially after a long run!). You can always ask people to date their cheque after the event.
  • Take your sponsorship form and a pen everywhere and ask everyone – be proud of what you are doing, and don’t be afraid to ask.
  • Use all your networks – are you a member of a gym, a club, a church? Have you done a whip-round at the local pub?
  • At work – ask people to sponsor you. Asking around pay day may lead to greater success!
  • Set up a Facebook group where you can update people on any training you may be undertaking. That way, they can feel part of your journey and be inspired to donate.
  • Set yourself a target – it’s a good way of staying focused and motivated and encouraging people to give.
  • Smile when asking for donations! Don’t feel guilty about asking people to give, every cent helps to give a child who is blind or visually impaired the confidence to persevere and achieve his/her own dreams.
  • www.justgiving.com and www.everydayhero.ie are fantastic websites designed to make online fundraising easy! Simply go ahead and create your own online fundraising page, you can email it to your friends who can support or sponsor you online, share the link on your Facebook profile and all the money you raise comes directly to us! Couldn’t be easier!

What you get from us

We have a great pack of fundraising ‘stuff’ to help you get your message across and raise lots of money for the children. Here’s a preview:

  • Blank posters, sponsorship cards, collection bucket, stickers and t-shirts.
  • An authorisation letter to confirm you are raising funds for ChildVision.
  • A description of ChildVision’s services and future plans for blind and visually impaired Irish children.

  • A friendly voice at the end of the phone to answer questions and work through Meet and Greet the children. We would be delighted if you would like to come in and visit us in Drumcondra so that you get an idea of the work we are doing here and the difference your fundraising will make to our children.
