Supporting Children Through Play
ChildVision is delighted to offer free Play Therapy sessions for children with visual impairments aged 4-12 years in Dublin and Cork.
Funded through the ReThink Ireland Active Play Fund, this service provides children with a safe, supportive space to explore feelings, develop confidence, and build emotional resilience through play.
Play is a child’s natural language. Through carefully guided play activities, children can express thoughts and emotions, work through challenges, and develop the skills they need to thrive.
What is Play Therapy?
Play Therapy is a specialised therapeutic approach that helps children communicate and process their experiences through play rather than words alone.
Children often find it easier to express feelings, concerns, and experiences through activities such as creative play, storytelling, art, sensory exploration, and imaginative games. A trained Play Therapist provides a safe and supportive environment where children can explore these emotions at their own pace.
How Can Play Therapy Help?
Play Therapy can support children to:
- Express thoughts and feelings
- Build confidence and self-esteem
- Develop healthy coping skills
- Improve emotional wellbeing
- Strengthen resilience
- Process difficult experiences and transitions
- Enhance social and communication skills
Every child is unique, and sessions are tailored to meet their individual needs.
Who Can Access the Service?
The programme is available to:
- Children aged 4-12 years
- Children with a visual impairment
- Families living in Dublin or Cork
There is no cost to families thanks to funding provided through the ReThink Ireland Active Play Fund.
Why Play Matters
Research and experience show that play plays a vital role in childhood development. For many children, play is a natural way of communicating feelings and experiences before they have the vocabulary to express them verbally.
By providing opportunities for therapeutic play, we can support children in building emotional awareness, self-confidence, and positive coping strategies that can benefit them throughout their lives.
Funded by ReThink Ireland
ChildVision is proud to be supported by the ReThink Ireland Active Play Fund, which is helping to expand access to vital emotional wellbeing services for children with visual impairments.
This funding enables us to provide Play Therapy sessions free of charge, ensuring that more children and families can access the support they need.
