What are Equine
Assisted Activities?

Equine Assisted Activities (EAA) involves using the horse and stable activities as a
medium for sensory regulation and readiness for learning and developing. It supports
children and young adults with a visual impairment who may also have additional
medical needs

EAA’s value lies in it being therapeutic but in a non-clinical space, outdoors, in nature,
with animals.

Proven benefits include:

● Improved core strength and physical fitness
● Enhanced communication
● Sensory regulation and improved concentration

A smiling woman with curly brown hair, wearing a light quilted vest over a dark long-sleeve shirt, stands closely beside a brown horse with a distinctive white blaze on its face and a black mane with a white streak. They are in a dimly lit stable with stone walls. The woman gently holds the horse’s head.

The Child Vision
EAA programme

The Child Vision EAA programme incorporates all the key elements of the ‘Horse Boy’ 1 method and combines it with our top-class therapeutic riding programme. It is the aim of the service to support the cognitive, physical, emotional and psychosocial developmental needs of each child.

In ChildVision we focus on providing a therapeutic service to any student attending ChildVision who requests it. These include children from the pre-school and primary school on campus and young adults from ChildVision’s day service called Pathways. Past pupils of ChildVision are also seen.

In addition we see individual clients, school and community groups from the surrounding Dublin area outside of ChildVision. These clients can request an application form from us at Equine@childvision.ie

PLEASE NOTE: We operate on a referral system — please contact Equine@childvision.ie before making any payments.

National Equine Centre

ChildVision are delighted to announce that a much-needed new indoor equine therapeutic centre, named in memory of Jack de Bromhead, is underway thanks to
the generous donations from a group of family and friends of the de Bromhead family.

Building work commenced in December 2024, and we are excited to share that the official launch of the new centre will take place on 26 September 2025.

The new indoor facility at the ChildVision campus will provide children who are blind, have additional complex needs, and are neurodiverse with access to world-class equine activities in a supportive, purpose-designed environment. It will also allow the ChildVision equine team and volunteers to extend their services, reaching more children over more hours, and making a life-changing difference, especially during the winter months.

Spearheaded by de Bromhead family friend and well-known racehorse owner Chris Jones, and with the blessing of Heather and Henry, the €1,000,000 donation target required to complete the equine therapeutic centre has been successfully reached.

We are so grateful to all who have contributed to making this transformative project
