This course is designed for people who want to learn to read and write braille by sight. It is based on materials developed by the School of Education at Birmingham University, these have been updated by ChildVision’s Reading Services to reflect the latest developments in braille use.

Course Content: The course is run through a combination of four contact days and self-study. The course materials in print and braille provide the framework for learning Unified English Braille (UEB), now used in schools in Ireland.

The materials for self-study build learners confidence in braille reading, writing and numeracy skills in stages. Learning tasks set at the end of each stage, with feedback provided by experienced instructors (2 from ChildVision, 1 external) to prepare learners for three formal assessments that count towards the QQI award, a Level 5 Component Certificate.
